Services and Facilities

Reference

Reference librarians will help you locate specific library materials and develop basic legal research techniques. Most reference librarians have both law and library science degrees and are admitted to a variety of state bars. The reference desk is located near the circulation area. Do not hesitate to ask for help. It may save you considerable time.

Interlibrary Loans

The Library offers interlibrary loan services to current Loyola students and faculty. Contact the interlibrary loan librarian at (213) 736-8119 to arrange an interlibrary loan.

Public Services

The Law Library is primarily a research and reference collection of law and law-related materials to be used within the Library. The Library's Public Services staff is trained to assist students and faculty. Circulation assistants and student staff are available to assist patrons with requests for reserve materials and for general assistance in locating materials.

Photocopiers

The Library provides coin and card operated photocopiers. There are copiers on every floor of the library.

Security

A security guard escort to the parking lot is available for those desiring one in the evening. Requests for escorts can be made at the circulation desk.

Study Rooms

There are numerous study rooms on all floors of the library. Study rooms may be reserved for two hour periods for use by groups of three or more Loyola Law School students. To reserve a room, sign up at the Circulation desk.

Computer Services

The Rains Law Library offers a wide variety of computer services to the law school community. The Library's Computer Resource Center (Library Computer Lab) consists of four rooms located on the south end of the second floor of the Rains Building. In addition to offering modern, networked computers and laser printers, a stand-alone scanning workstation, resume printer and other services are available. These computers are only for use by currently enrolled Loyola Law School students. Students must have a library network login and password to access the computers. The Library Computer Lab Help Desk provides limited assistance in the use of PCs, and is staffed seven days a week. Computer facilities are open during all posted library hours, and close 15 minutes prior to the Library's closing time.
